Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Leads Investigation into Officer-Involved Shooting on Wells Avenue

On February 3, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers with the Reno Police Department responded to a welfare check in the area of South Wells Avenue, north of Kuenzli Street.

Officers made contact with a suspect, and at approximately 4:15 p.m., an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their name will be withheld pending next of kin notification.

An officer with the Reno Police Department sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the officer remains in stable condition.

The Washoe County Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol was enacted. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Sparks Police Department.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. There are no outstanding suspects or threats to the public related to this incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be submitted to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for review.
