On September 15, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Sparks Police Department officers initiated a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Kleppe Lane in Sparks on a vehicle driven by a suspect wanted on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon.
The suspect fled the scene in their vehicle, nearly striking a Sparks Police Department officer. During the incident, an officer-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect vehicle continued to flee from the area and struck a Reno Police Department patrol vehicle, injuring a Reno Police Department officer.
As the suspect vehicle entered the area of Victorian Avenue and McCarran Boulevard, the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The unoccupied vehicle continued rolling and subsequently crashed. The suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Reno Police Department officer is being evaluated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the incident and is in stable condition.
No additional injuries have been reported related to this incident.
The Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol was enacted, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Reno Police Department.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. There are no outstanding suspects or known threats to the public. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. Once the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for review.
