On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning in the area of Bonsai Rock on the east shore of Lake Tahoe.
Members of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office patrol, Search and Rescue (SAR), Hasty Team, and Specialized Vehicle Unit (SVU), along with the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Nevada State Park Rangers, and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the scene and located an unresponsive adult male in the water.
The victim was transported to Sand Harbor, where he was pronounced deceased.
This incident is currently being investigated as an accidental drowning by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
