Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Suspect in Battery with a Deadly Weapon Investigation

On June 30, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the Nevada Cares Campus Resource Center, located at 610 Line Drive in Reno.

During the investigation, deputies determined that the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jaivon Simmons, initially threatened a staff member at the campus with a knife. Shortly thereafter, Simmons stabbed a victim outside the entrance to the Nevada Cares Campus Resource Center.

The victim was provided aid by witnesses at the scene until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was then transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

When deputies arrived at the reported location, Simmons was still on scene and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following felony charges:

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Battery with a Deadly Weapon
