On September 15, 2025, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 33-year-old Tyler Dollard as the suspect in the death of 40-year-old Carlos Cardenas.
On May 25, 2025, patrol deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased individual in the area of the dirt extension of Chimney Road in Sun Valley.
When Deputies arrived on scene, they found a male subject, later identified as Carlos Cardenas. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Results from the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Cardenas’ death a homicide.
After an ongoing investigation including assistance from members of the Northern Nevada Drug Task Force (NNDTF), Human Exploitation and Recovery Operations Team (HERO), and the Northern Nevada Regional Intelligence Center (NNRIC), detectives identified Tyler Dollard as the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives have determined that there are no outstanding suspects in this case.
Dollard is currently being held in the Washoe County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- NRS 200.010 – Open Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon
- NRS 200.380 – Robbery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon
- NRS 199.220 – Destroy or Conceal Evidence
