Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies issued nearly 300 citations during two Nevada Department of Public Safety Joining Forces events during the month of July. More than 160 of those citations were issued to drivers who were speeding.
From July 1st through July 12th, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office joined other northern Nevada law enforcement agencies for a campaign focused at increasing traffic safety by reducing speeding. From July 19th through August 2nd, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office joined with partnering agencies for a campaign focused on distracted driving. In both campaigns, speeding drivers were the most significant traffic violations.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to these efforts initiated a total of 225 traffic stops. The next scheduled Joining Forces campaign focuses on pedestrian safety laws. It begins with the start of the new Washoe County School District’s school year on August 9, 2021.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of: impaired driving, distracted driving, seat belt, speed, and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
The Sheriff’s Office participation in these Joining Forces campaigns is made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.
