Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies found more people speeding behind the wheel versus drivers using their cell phones during a targeted Joining Forces distracted driving campaign.
Deputies issued ten distracted driving citations and 21 citations for speeding as part of April’s Joining Forces event. Deputies pulled over a total of 42 drivers.
From April 10th through April 19th, 2021 the Sheriff’s Office joined regional law enforcement agencies for a high-intensity traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing distracted driving.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to this effort initiated a total of 42 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, distracted driving, seat belt, speed, and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
