Washoe County Sheriff’s Office asks community to weigh in with community survey

Feb 9, 2021

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam announced today that he will be releasing the first Sheriff’s Office community survey next Monday, February 15, 2021.

“I have repeatedly said that we at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are community listeners and community protectors, in that order,” said Sheriff Balaam. “It is imperative that we continue the conversations that have emerged throughout the past year. This inaugural community survey allows residents to voice their opinions on the operation of the Sheriff’s Office.

“It is my responsibility to mirror the needs of the community while keeping everyone safe,” continued Sheriff Balaam. “Respondents can be assured that their answers will remain confidential, and I will ensure every completed survey is taken seriously within the Office.”

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Community Survey is an important feedback tool which will enable residents to freely express their thoughts on services, comment on the general policy direction of the Sheriff’s Office, and to find what residents’ opinions are on a variety of current issues in the community.

The survey assesses five key components that involve the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office including:

  • Community Engagement
  • Public Safety
  • Procedural Justice
  • Performance
  • Contact and Satisfaction

Questions such as “To what extent does the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office develop relationships with community members,” “Over the last 12 months, to what extent have your feelings of safety in your community increased, decreased, or stayed the same,” and “To what extent do you trust the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office,” will be asked of those who complete the Community Survey.

The survey should take about five to ten minutes to complete, and it is completely confidential. You must be an adult at least 18 years of age and a resident of the State of Nevada.

Everyone who completes and submits the survey will be entered into a drawing for a $500 Visa gift card.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Community Survey will be released via the Sheriff’s Office’s email system and social media platforms.
