On January 31, 2025, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded to the area of Golden Eagle Regional Park to assist Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) for a report of a wanted subject’s vehicle being located. The vehicle was identified as belonging to Monty Guthrie, who has an active extraditable felony warrant out of California.
Deputies approached Monty’s vehicle multiple times, but he drove away as they got closer. Eventually leaving the park area and further into BLM land towards Mustang Road.
The Hostage Negotiation Team was called out to speak with Monty through dispatch, but Monty was uncooperative.
RAVEN and Drone surveillance were used to track Monty’s location.
Due to the circumstances that developed through the incident, SWAT was activated and took control of the scene. Without incident, SWAT made contact with Monty and took him into custody.
Monty was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility where he was booked on the Felony Warrant, including Obstruction and Resisting and Failure to Yield.
There is no active threat or danger to the community.
