VYA, Nev. – The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue in coordination with the Federal Wildfire Services are responding to the S-1 Fire burning in the area of Vya, Nevada.
The fire began on August 24, 2026, at approximately 2:50 p.m. and has grown to more than 2,500 acres. Evacuations are currently underway in impacted areas.
Residents and visitors in the area should closely monitor evacuation information and be prepared to leave if conditions change.
Evacuation areas are identified using the following status levels:
RED – Evacuate Now: Residents in these areas should leave immediately and follow directions from emergency personnel.
YELLOW – Get Set to Evacuate: Residents should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. Gather essential belongings, medications, important documents and supplies, and be ready to evacuate if conditions worsen.

The public is asked to avoid the affected area whenever possible, including State Route 8A, to allow firefighters, law enforcement and other emergency personnel to safely continue response operations.
