On August 11, 2024, at approximately 12:15 p.m., a Washoe County Detention Facility inmate was discovered unresponsive in their cell by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Deputies and medical personnel immediately initiated lifesaving measures, and both REMSA and the Reno Fire Department were contacted and responded.
At approximately 12:48 p.m., medical personnel pronounced the inmate deceased.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct official death investigations. The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will release the inmate’s name upon next of kin notification. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation.
