UPDATE: Death Investigation at Lois Allen Elementary School

On May 12, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and Washoe County School District Police responded to a report of a possible medical call on the outdoor campus of Lois Allen Elementary School.

Upon arrival, medical personnel confirmed there was a deceased individual on scene. Detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded and assumed the investigation.

Lois Allen Elementary School was placed on a secured campus status by the Washoe County School District in order to keep students separated from the scene and allow law enforcement personnel to conduct their investigation.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded and is conducting its formal death investigation. The decedent in this case has been identified as a 17-year-old juvenile female. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. This case is not being investigated as suspicious by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the young woman’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this loss. Incidents involving young lives carry an immeasurable weight, and our thoughts are with everyone grieving during this incredibly difficult time.
