Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Fugitive Wanted for Kidnapping

On September 9, 2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of South Virginia Street and Towne Drive in Reno.

During the stop, deputies identified the driver as 19-year-old Juan Acosta, who was found to have an active felony fugitive warrant issued out of Monterey County, California. The warrant stemmed from charges of Kidnapping and False Imprisonment by Violence.

Acosta was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he awaits extradition proceedings to Monterey County.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with law enforcement partners throughout the region to ensure fugitives facing serious charges are held accountable.
