On Thursday, July 10, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) responded to a report of a structure fire in the 5000 block of Pegasus Drive in Sun Valley.
Upon arrival, fire and law enforcement personnel encountered a combative resident believed to be armed. The individual, later identified as Scott Sistrunk, refused to comply with commands or vacate the premises. During the encounter, Sistrunk brandished a wooden 2×4 and continued to exhibit threatening behavior toward deputies.
While the situation was ongoing, an outbuilding on the property became fully engulfed in flames. To ensure the safety of neighboring residents and allow fire crews to address the blaze without obstruction, WCSO deployed a K-9 unit to apprehend the suspect.
Sistrunk was taken into custody and transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation. Upon release, he has been transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility. Sistrunk was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- Resisting Public Officer with Deadly Weapon (F)
- Assault with Deadly Weapon – First Responder (F)
- Mistreat Police Animal (F)
- Interfere with Firefighter (M)
- Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the fire.
No injuries to deputies, fire personnel, or bystanders were reported.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office thanks Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District for their partnership and swift action in preventing further property damage.
This is an active investigation.
