Deputies Quickly Locate and Detain Shooting Suspect After Community Call-In

On the evening of September 21, 2025, deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a shooting in the area of Wilcox Ranch Road and Amy Road in Palamino Valley. At approximately 8:07 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies arrived within minutes and located the male victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until he was transported by Care Flight to a local area hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s wife was being followed by a suspicious vehicle when her husband, the victim, responded to assist her. The suspect, later identified as Andrew Strother, opened fire on the victim’s vehicle, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Witnesses assisted until deputies arrived.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., WCSO received a call of a suspicious person at a 7-Eleven on Eagle Canyon Drive. Washoe County Deputies and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Tribal Police quickly responded. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Strother, matched the description of the shooting suspect.

Strother was detained without incident and is booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on the following charges:
