At approximately 11:45 a.m. today, Washoe County School Police reported hearing sounds of gunfire in the area of Yvonne Shaw Middle School. As information developed, it was determined that the shots likely originated from a residence on the 800 block of Alena Way in Sparks.
Deputies responded to the area and made verbal contact from outside the residence. A male suspect exited the home without incident and was subsequently arrested. Following the investigation, the suspect was charged with discharging a firearm where others could be endangered and being intoxicated while in possession of a firearm. There were no injuries reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. As a precaution during the incident, both Spanish Springs High School and Yvonne Shaw Middle School were placed on lockdown. All lockdowns have been lifted.
