Joint Investigation Leads to Arrest of Parole Absconder by RSONU, RCSU, and USMS

On May 13, 2024, detectives from the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU) and Regional Crime Suppression Unit (RSCU), in collaboration with members of the United States Marshals Service (USMS) task force, conducted a successful operation leading to the apprehension of 62-year-old Vernon Paige in Reno, Nevada.

Vernon Paige was wanted by Nevada Parole and Probation for absconding from parole. Acting on gathered intelligence, Paige was quickly located and arrested without incident. During the arrest, Paige was discovered to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, Paige was previously convicted of sexual assault and required to register as a sex offender in Nevada but was failing to do so.

Following his arrest, Vernon Paige was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on charges of violating parole, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to comply with laws related to sex offender registration.

There are approximately 1,400 registered sex offenders in the Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County area, monitored by investigators from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, and Nevada State Police Parole and Probation.

RSONU operates as a regional, multi-jurisdictional, and collaborative entity to carry out the community notification requirements outlined in Chapter 179D of the Nevada Revised Statutes. Its jurisdictional boundaries encompass all of Washoe County.
