At approximately 10:57 p.m. on July 23, 2025, when a concerned citizen called 911, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a welfare check involving a male subject standing on the outer edge of the White Lake Overpass near Cold Springs.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the individual and quickly determined he was experiencing a mental health crisis. To ensure the safety of all involved, deputies temporarily shut down traffic and established a secure perimeter around the area.
Deputies worked together to calmly engage the individual and through their combined efforts, they were able to build a rapport with the subject – ultimately gaining his trust. The individual agreed to step back onto the bridge, where he was safely taken into the care of REMSA for medical evaluation and support.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to supporting mental health and encourages anyone experiencing thoughts of suicide or emotional distress to seek help. Resources are available, and no one needs to face a crisis alone.
