Nov. 22, 2023. Reno/Sparks, Nev. – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced HMC Farms is voluntarily recalling peaches, plums and nectarines due to a risk of Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious or fatal infections in vulnerable populations.
The recalled fruit is only for affected peaches, plums and nectarines distributed between May 1-Nov. 15, 2023. Current fruit available in retail markets are not included in this recall. The FDA is urging consumers to check their freezers in case there could be frozen fruit stored there, and to discard it if there is any found.
Healthy individuals who become infected with listeria may experience minor symptoms, like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant people.
You can find out more information about the recall on the FDA’s website, including photos of the affected fruit and labels. Consumers with questions are encouraged to call HMC Farms’ consumer information desk at 844-483-3867, Monday-Friday between 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
