RENO, Nev. (2025) – Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN), in collaboration with law enforcement and local organizations including Northern Nevada Public Health, and Truckee Meadows Water Authority, is proud to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday April 26, 2025, from 10:00 A.M.- 2 P.M. PDT at participating locations in Washoe County.
This biannual event provides the community with a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of expired or unused prescription medications. We want to properly dispose of medications. Improper disposal leads to exposure to the environment. It could get into the water supply if flushed down the drain, it can pollute our water and unintentionally expose the community and wildlife to the chemicals in those medications. Unused prescriptions can lead to accidental ingestion, particularly by children or pets, which in turn creates a risk for misuse and/or health problems. Substance misuse may lead to accidental overdoses or abuse, especially among young children and teens.
Substance misuse can lead to a range of social issues, including healthcare costs, crime, and loss of productivity. It’s important to address the issue holistically, and reducing access to unused medications is a significant step in that direction.
The event will take place in nine locations where residents can drop off their medications for safe disposal.
