Additionally, there will be several local events throughout the month of May to celebrate National Bike Month, hosted by community organizations such as Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance, Reno Bike Project, Kiwanis Bike Program, Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County, Safe Routes to School and more.

The best way to celebrate Bike Month is simply to get on a bike: ride to work, ride to the store or just ride to enjoy the scenery outside. The community is invited to log their miles by participating in the Make Every Ride Count national initiative, using a free app from Love to Ride and the League of American Bicyclists.

Northern Nevada Public Health, formerly the Washoe County Health District, promotes and encourages physical activity in the community through active transportation, such as bicycling and walking, to reach everyday destinations.

“Cycling is fun, good for a person’s health, and is a sustainable and green mode of transportation,” said District Health Officer Kevin Dick. “For all riders and drivers, please remember the rules of the road. Obey traffic signals, yield for pedestrians, and give plenty of space to share the road. Remember to stay safe and have fun!”

National Bike Month is celebrated in communities from coast to coast to showcase the many benefits of bicycling, and to encourage more people to incorporate bicycling into their daily lives. For more information about Bike Month locally, visit BikeMonthWashoe.org.
