The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designated the southern portion of Washoe County, known as the Truckee Meadows Hydrographic Area 87 (HA 87), as Serious Nonattainment in 2001 (66 FR 1268). EPA redesignated HA 87 as Attainment and approved the First 10-Year Maintenance Plan (80 FR 76232). As required by the Clean Air Act Section 175A(b) (42 U.S.C. § 7505a), AQMD has prepared the Second 10-Year Maintenance Plan eight years after the First 10-Year Maintenance Plan was approved. For more information on the NAAQS designation process, go to the EPA’s website.
The Second 10-Year Maintenance Plan is available for review on OurCleanAir.com under Public Notices. A physical copy is available upon request. Comments will be accepted now until 11:59PM on October 5, 2023, and may be submitted via e-mail to HealthAirQuality-Planning@nnph.org, dropped off at AQMD’s drop box located in the hallway of Building B at 1001 E. 9th St, Suite B171, Reno, NV 89512, or mailed to that same address. All correspondence must include first and last name, mailing address, and other contact information.
A public hearing will be held on October 28, 2023, at 1:00 PM during the District Board of Health meeting for adoption. The public hearing will include a presentation regarding the Second 10-Year Maintenance Plan. Written or oral public comments may be submitted at the meeting. If adopted, the Second 10-Year PM10 Maintenance Plan will be forwarded to the State of Nevada and EPA as a revision to the PM10 State Implementation Plan.
