The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designated the southern portion of Washoe County, known as the Truckee Meadows Hydrographic Area 87 (HA 87), as Serious Nonattainment in 2001 (66 FR 1268). As required by the Clean Air Act Section 175A(b) (42 U.S.C. § 7505a), AQMD has prepared the Second 10-Year Maintenance Plan eight years after the First 10-Year Maintenance Plan was approved. For more information on the NAAQS designation process, go to the EPA’s website.
