New Mama Care Kits: Free Resource for Low-Income Post-Partum Women in Northern Nevada

Mar 21, 2024

March 21, 2024. Reno/Sparks, Nev. – Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) in partnership with Northern Nevada Maternal and Child Health Coalition (MCH) is pleased to announce a new service available to post-partum clients in Northern Nevada.

Necessary after-birth supplies are often unattainable for low-income families – to fill this need, Nevada MCH collaborated with NNPH to create the New Mama Care Kits program.

This new initiative currently allows Nevada MCH to provide new mothers with:

  • 15 individually wrapped maxi pads
  • 1 package of wet wipes/moist personal wipes
  • 2 pairs of mesh brief underwear
  • 2 mini bottles of hand sanitizer
  • 1 tube of nipple cream
  • 10 individually wrapped disposable bra pads
  • 1 package of witch hazel pads
  • Information about ‘What to Expect After Giving Birth’ and ‘How to Care for Stitches’
  • Additional materials to recognize signs of postpartum depression, WIC, local breastfeeding help & support and other relevant information for families with young children
  • Small gifts for mother (to be determined as per donations)
  • Distributed in a reusable tote bag provided by our sponsors

While there is a limited supply, community organizations that serve women in need of these kits, are encouraged to refer moms to one of seven distributing partners, which include NNPH’s Family Planning and WIC clinics on 1001 E. 9th St., WCSD Family Resource Centers and The Children’s Cabinet, among others. For a full list of distributing partners or to inquire about joining the network of distributing partners, please contact Northern Nevada MCH or visit their website at https://nvmch.org/new-mama-care-kits.

To receive a kit, a family will be asked to fill out a demographic slip indicating their age range, household income range, zip code and ethnicity. They do not need to provide any other information and the kits are free of charge while supplies last.
