Health District requesting public participation to identify health priorities in Washoe County

Mar 31, 2022

March 31, 2022. Reno/Sparks, Nev. – The Washoe County Health District (WCHD) is seeking community participation for its upcoming Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and residents have an opportunity to be entered into a drawing to win a $20 gift card for their time.

The CHNA is a document that helps identify the most important health needs of residents in Washoe County. In order to determine those needs, the Health District gathers extensive information from several sources. One of those sources is community members.

The survey is for residents 18 years and older and takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. Participants who submit a survey will be eligible to enter into a drawing to win a $20 gift card.

“This survey was developed to better understand the perceived barriers to being physically active, eating more healthy foods, accessing medical providers/services, and food insecurity among Washoe County residents,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer in Washoe County. “Survey respondents are also being asked to rank the top three health-related needs in Washoe County. Having this information will help us prioritize health needs in Washoe County.”

The last community health needs assessment was done for 2018-2020 and can be viewed here (executive summary here). The Washoe County Health District is nationally accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board and has jurisdiction over all public health matters in Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County through the policy-making Washoe County District Board of Health. The District consists of five divisions: Administrative Health Services, Air Quality Management, Community and Clinical Health Services, Environmental Health Services and Epidemiology & Public Health Preparedness.
