COVID-19 vaccines for children, uninsured are now available at NNPH

Oct 20, 2025

Oct. 20, 2025. Reno/Sparks, Nev. – Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) has received its shipment of COVID-19 vaccines and is offering appointments starting today for children and those who are uninsured or underinsured.

The updated COVID-19 vaccine, which is formulated to protect people from newer-circulating variants, has approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) for anyone 6 months and older.

To schedule an appointment, call 775-328-2402.

The biggest benefit of the vaccine is it reduces risk of hospitalization, severe disease, and death from COVID-19, especially among those who are at greater risk like older adults, people with weakened immune systems and those with chronic conditions. It’s recommended to consult your doctor or medical provider with any questions.

“We want to thank the community for their patience as we worked with the State of Nevada to order the vaccine for kids and those who are uninsured or underinsured,” said Dr. Chad Kingsley, District Health Officer for NNPH. “We work for our community to provide vaccines for anyone who wants them so that our families, workforce, and community can be healthier and happier.”

NNPH’s Immunization Program offers a range of vaccines, not just COVID-19. Parents or guardians are also required to be present if a child under the age of 18 is receiving a vaccine, and those parents or guardians can also get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Adults who do have insurance are encouraged to visit a local pharmacy to get the vaccine.
