Sparks Fire Department, Walmart, Sam’s Club to begin distributing vaccines for seniors 70+

Ten Northern Nevada Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies are among 1,000 locations in 22 states receiving Federal vaccine allocations this week. Those who are eligible, per state guidelines, can schedule an appointment on the Walmart and Sam’s Club websites. The pharmacies will begin administering vaccines today, Feb. 12.

Know a Senior 70+? Help them get the COVID-19 vaccine

More than 5,000 seniors 70 years and older who signed up for the Washoe County Senior COVID-19 vaccine list have been invited to schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In order to be equitable in providing the vaccines to everyone, a majority of those invitations went to the following zip codes: 89431, 89433, 89501, 89502, 89512. Those zip codes were identified based on the most recent Washoe County Community Health Needs Assessment as most needy in terms of socioeconomic status and health outcomes.

If you know a senior who is interested in receiving a vaccine, whether it’s your family member, friend, coworker, neighbor, etc., we encourage you to reach out to them to see if they need help. It’s important that those 70 years and older who might have difficulty using technology get help to understand the process. If they received an email, there is a link they need to click and schedule an appointment.

Those on the list are asked to check their email inbox (including spam folder) or their phone voicemail to see if they were selected. You can sign up for the senior wait list here.

Do you share an e-mail address with someone in your household?

If you receive an email from Washoe County Health District stating that you were selected to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, the invite is extended to all spouses or partners who are 70 years or older. Many seniors in Washoe County share an email account with their spouse or significant other. Only seniors 70 years and older can receive the vaccine.

Please remember that getting an e-mail does not mean you are automatically booked for an appointment. You must follow the instructions in the e-mail to ensure you are scheduled.

Do you need to be taken off the waiting list?

If you have received the COVD-19 vaccine from a location other than the Washoe County Health District (i.e. a pharmacy or healthcare provider) and need to be taken off the waiting list, please let us know by calling 775-328-2427 or emailing covidvaccine@washoecounty.us. This will help us immensely as we move through the list to schedule appointments as they become available.
