Washoe County Healthy Living Forum set for December 1

Nov 30, 2016

RENO, NV – Chronic diseases account for seven out of every ten deaths, and 75% of health care costs.  Because of these enormous impacts to our citizens and community, the Washoe County Health District and its partners have planned an event featuring both local and national speakers on topics relating to chronic disease and the factors that impact health such as tobacco use and exposure, stress, physical activity, nutrition, and the communities in which we live. The Healthy Living Forum set for December 1, at the University of Nevada, Reno, strives to inspire individuals and motivate organizations to support efforts to improve health in our community.
Highlights include a speaker from New Orleans who will talk about their city’s Smoke Free ordinance which has protected bartenders, musicians and casino workers from exposure to second hand smoke since April 2015 and a local physician who will talk about Dieting Your Way to Obesity.
“A healthy community benefits us all, physically, mentally, and economically,” said Washoe County District Health Officer, Kevin Dick. “During the Healthy Living Forum, our community will have the opportunity to increase knowledge and collaborations that can lessen the impact of chronic diseases by influencing the risk factors associated with them.”
