Washoe County Health District to host 5210 Healthy Washoe Watch Party

May 17, 2023. Reno/Sparks, NV – Washoe County Health District (WCHD) will be hosting a watch party on Friday, May 19 at 2 p.m. to premier short videos aimed to inspire the community to make healthier food choices where they live, work and play.

5210 Healthy Washoe works with communities to create environments that support healthy choices in everyday settings including schools, health care offices and workplaces. 5210 Healthy Washoe was adapted from Let’s Go! a nationally recognized obesity prevention initiative and is a simple guideline with the following message:

  • 5 or more servings of fruits & vegetables per day.
  • 2 or less hours of screen time
  • 1 hour or more of physical activity and
  • 0 sugary drinks per day.

The featured videos, produced in English and Spanish, are part of an advertising campaign to raise awareness about 5210 Healthy Washoe. Media, stakeholders, and partners are invited to attend the event to learn more about 5210 Healthy Washoe initiatives and how others can implement the program in their own spaces.  For more information visit 5210Washoe.com.

Why: Eating healthy foods, being physically active, and being tobacco-free can reduce the risk of developing a chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke among others. Chronic diseases are among the most common health problems, and the most preventable.

Who: 5210 Healthy Washoe, as well as WCHD’s Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention program, and Department of Health and Human Services Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
