Waste Management will hold a HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE FREE DROP-OFF EVENT on Saturday, November 4, from 8a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 1455 E. Gregg Street, in Sparks.  Residential customers with accounts in good standing will be able to drop off up to 50 pounds of household hazardous waste for free, with all other residential household hazardous waste accepted at $1.00 per pound. According to health officials it is important that people take advantage of events like these to rid their homes of hazardous waste. “We encourage our residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous wastes and make their homes safer and healthier places to live,” says Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick. “The U.S. EPA currently is working with Sonoma and Napa counties following the recent California wildfire disaster to assess, collect and dispose of household hazardous wastes to reduce potential threats to public health and safety.  The Waste Management household hazardous waste collection event can reduce the potential for exposure or environmental contamination from these materials in the event of a natural disaster affecting Washoe County,” Dick added. 
Waste Management will not accept explosives, asbestos, biohazards (excluding sharps), DEA controlled substances, compressed gases, radioactive materials, preserved wood, laboratory chemicals or sewage at the event.  Oil, antifreeze and car batteries are accepted at the Waste Management Transfer Station at 1390 Commercial Row, Reno.
