Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced today the sentencing of a Sparks man to life in prison on a charge of sexual assault.

Bryan Sandiego Samson, 33 (DOB 11/14/81), from Sparks was sentenced earlier today in District Court to a term of life in prison.  Samson had previously pled guilty to one count of Sexual Assault on August 18, 2015.

The case against Samson began on August 20, 2014 when detectives with the Reno Police Department responded to Saint Mary’s Hospital on a report of a sexual assault that had just occurred. The investigation determined that a 19 year old female patient being treated for seizures had been sexually assaulted by an employee of the hospital.  The victim was recovering in a hospital bed when Samson grouped and digitally penetrated her.  When interviewed, she was able to tell police that due to her seizure she was fully aware of her surroundings and the assault, but unable to speak or move and resist.  Samson was employed as a phlebotomist at the time and assaulted the victim after preforming a blood draw on her.  He was subsequently arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Based on the sentence he received today, Samson will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 10 years in prison.
