WCDA Secures Sentences in Two Drug Trafficking Cases

Defendants Sentenced to More Than 20 Years

Jul 16, 2024

Tony Hoffman (dob 9/1/64), following his plea of guilty, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 10 years, for Trafficking in a Schedule I Controlled Substance, 400 grams or more. In July of last year, a Washoe County Sheriff’s deputy that is part of the Northern Nevada Interdiction Task Force (NNITF) was notified that Hoffman, a wanted subject out of Iowa, was driving through the area.

Hoffman was considered to be armed and dangerous with violent tendencies, and known to abuse controlled substances as well as being a known escape risk. He was also known to carry weapons and had a history of resisting arrest and providing false information. After other deputies responded and located Hoffman driving, they pulled him over. He was detained without incident and a small amount of methamphetamine, along with weapons, were found in his right pocket. A K9 was then deployed and alerted to the presence of more drugs in the car. More than one pound of methamphetamine and one pound of heroin were recovered.

In a separate case, Adan Ramirez-Villa (dob 2/8/97) was sentenced to 20 years in prison after his plea of guilty to Trafficking Bromazolam, with parole eligibility after 8 years. Ramirez-Villa was on probation for a prior drug conviction, and Parole and Probation Officers searched his house as part of the terms of his release. During the search, officers found almost 9 pounds of marijuana, 12 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, and more than 3.5 pounds of counterfeit Xanax bars, which later tested positive as bromazolam, a schedule I controlled substance. Multiple firearms were also seized.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Vieta-Kabell prosecuted both cases on behalf of the State. At the sentencing hearings he noted that illegal drugs in such large quantities, which undoubtedly were to be sold, present a significant danger to the community. The Honorable Judges Scott Freeman and Egan Walker presided and imposed the sentences, respectively.
