WCDA Secures Life Sentence

Victim Was Kidnapped and Sexually Assaulted

Feb 4, 2025

The Reno man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman, has been sentenced. Lonnie Terrell Hawkins was given life in prison with parole eligibility after 15 years have been served. Hawkins’ criminal history spans back to 1996, with four prior felony convictions for Larceny from the Person, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Attempt to Possess a Stolen Vehicle. He also has repeatedly violated prior parole and probation opportunities.

Hawkins was arrested in 2023, after officers with Reno Police responded to a possible kidnapping. The victim reported that the defendant had given her fentanyl and then told her that she owed him sex for the narcotics. He then held her captive in his vehicle and told her that he was going to take her to Las Vegas, where she would be forced to work as a prostitute for him. He sexually assaulted the woman before he was subsequently found, arrested, and convicted following a jury trial.
