WCDA Secures Guilty Verdicts

Defendant Kidnapped, Sexually Assaulted Victim

Nov 21, 2024

A jury has returned guilty verdicts on charges of Sexual Assault, Second Degree Kidnapping, Coercion with Physical Force or Immediate Threat of Physical Force, False Imprisonment, and Possession of a Controlled Substance against Lonnie Terrell Hawkins (dob 11/5/77).

Last October, Reno Police responded to the intersection of Sutro and Wedekind for a possible kidnapping. When officers arrived, they found Hawkins in the car with the 30-year-old victim in the back seat. The victim’s mother had previously found her in the car in a warehouse with Hawkins, and the victim had texted her mom “help.” The victim reported that the defendant had given her fentanyl and then told her she owed him sex for the drugs. He kept her secluded in his vehicle and told her she couldn’t leave until she had sex with him. Hawkins then sexually assaulted the woman before driving her all over town and telling her he was going to take her to Vegas where he was going to make her a prostitute for him. During Hawkins’ arrest, officers also discovered methamphetamine and mushrooms in the car.

The case was presented by Deputy District Attorney Jocelyn Ostomel. Sentencing is set for January 27th, 2025 before the Honorable Judge Barry Breslow.
