Sparks Man Convicted of Strangulation

Defendant Had Previously Pulled a Knife on the Victim

Jan 16, 2025

A jury has found a Sparks man guilty of Battery by Strangulation, following a two-day trial. Officers with the Sparks Police Department (SPD) arrested Brock Rogers (dob 4/28/76) after he attacked a man at Deer Park on June 23rd of 2024.

When SPD officers arrived, the victim explained that he was struck by Rogers in the face and called SPD dispatch. While on hold, the victim began recording as Rogers approached him and attempted to strike the victim again. The victim was able to duck the swing, but Rogers wrapped his arms around the victim’s neck. As the victim attempted to escape, Rogers bit him twice on the back. Rogers then applied more pressure to the victim’s neck to the point he was not able to breathe and was close to losing consciousness. Eventually Rogers released the victim and left the park.

At trial Deputy District Attorney Rachael Chesterfield played the video that the victim had taken of Rogers. DDA Chesterfield also highlighted the consistencies of the victim’s account along with corroborating pictures.

Sentencing is set for March 6th before the Honorable Lynne Jones.

A recording of the press release for media can be heard below. Mug shots can be found on the WCDA Facebook and Twitter accounts.
