DA Chris Hicks announces that 48-year-old Jaime Oseguera-Vega (dob 1/26/76) has been sentenced to a total of 247 years in prison by the Honorable Judge Lynne Jones. He was previously found guilty of five counts of Sexual Assault on a Child Under 14, two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child Under 16, two counts of Sexual Assault, and one count of Incest.
The case against Oseguera began in March of 2020, when a Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputy began investigating an anonymous tip related to Oseguera-Vega’s abuse of children that were known to him. During that investigation, the victim disclosed that the defendant had begun inappropriately touching her when she was 6 years old and escalated to sexually assaulting her when she was 8 years old. He repeatedly sexually assaulted her over the next 10 years and threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone about the abuse.
The victim was eventually able to flee Nevada and come forward to law enforcement. During the trial, the victim bravely testified about the decade of trauma she endured. Chief Deputy District Attorney Peg Samples and Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades highlighted the strength and courage it took the victim to flee from Oseguera-Vega and break the cycle of abuse and threats. At sentencing, Chief Samples asked for the defendant’s sentences to be run consecutively, equaling the 247-years-to-life sentence.
