A Sparks man was convicted of five counts after trial by jury on August 8th. Mario Fertini (dob 8/3/91) was found guilty of two counts of Trafficking in a Schedule I Controlled Substance 400 Grams or More, Conspiring to Violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Last September, a detective with the Reno Police Department was told that Fertini, also known as Anttwon Fogers, was selling methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin in the Reno/Sparks area. A check of the defendant’s criminal history showed multiple drug-related charges and an active felony warrant for attempted drug trafficking.
Over the next several weeks, surveillance was conducted and officers saw Fertini meet multiple people for short periods of time in the parking lot of his apartment complex in a manner consistent with selling drugs. Fertini was arrested for his outstanding warrant and during a search of his apartment, law enforcement recovered a total of 9 pounds of methamphetamine and a gun.
Deputy District Attorney Michael Vieta-Kabell presented multiple witnesses to Fertini’s crimes as well as numerous pieces of evidence gathered by detectives of the Regional Narcotics Unit connecting the defendant to the methamphetamine and firearm recovered from his apartment. Sentencing is set for October 28th before the Honorable Judge Scott Freeman.
