Man Who Shot Fiancé in Face is Convicted

Found Guilty of Attempted Murder

Jun 21, 2024

The Sparks man who shot his fiancé in the face and beat his landlord has been found guilty on all counts. A jury convicted Wacey John Chabot (dob 12/29/90) of Attempted Murder, Domestic Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon causing Substantial Bodily Harm, and Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon.

Officers with Sparks Police responded to Wolverine Way in January of 2023 after one of the victims called 9-1-1 to report that he had been injured and the defendant’s fiancé had been shot. As officers arrived, they found Chabot outside a travel trailer on the property. Despite repeated commands to stop, the defendant ignored the police and instead went inside the trailer for a few moments before again exiting. Continued commands to stop and get on the ground were ignored, and Chabot was hit with a taser from one of the officers.

Once Chabot was in custody, police entered the trailer where they found the 36-year-old fiancé suffering from a gunshot wound to her face. The injury also included several facial fractures, including her nasal cavity and jaw. The 45-year-old landlord had been hit in the head by Chabot with the firearm, incurring lacerations that required stitches.

During the trial, Deputy District Attorney Jenna Garcia argued that Chabot intentionally lured both victims back to the property that evening. He then watched them enter the trailer, followed them in with the firearm and stated, “all of us are going to die tonight.” Chabot then shot his fiancé and hit the landlord over the head with his gun. The State argued that the evidence indicated Chabot intended to kill both victims and himself, but luckily the other man was able to wrestle the gun away and run from the trailer to call for help. Chabot’s fiancé survived her injuries.

Chabot is set to be sentenced on August 19th before the Honorable Judge Scott Freeman. He faces a maximum of 60 years in prison.
