Man Who Attacked Elderly Mother Convicted at Trial

Defendant Beat and Strangled 66-year Woman

Sep 12, 2025

35-year-old Sean Looney (dob 12/3/89) has been convicted of strangling his 66-year-old mother, as well as beating and punching her in the face. He was found guilty by jury of Domestic Battery by Strangulation of An Older Person and Domestic Battery of an Older Person.

Looney was arrested by Reno Police officers on New Year’s Day of this year, after a neighbor called police to report that he was beating a woman. When police arrived, they found Looney lying in the front yard and subsequently arrested him. Officers then connected with Looney’s mother, who was suffering from multiple injuries to her face, neck, and chest. The investigation uncovered that the victim had been sleeping when her son came and knocked on her front door, and after she let him inside, he began to attack her. She was able to escape from Looney and ran to a neighbor, who called RPD.

At trial, the State was represented by Deputy District Attorney Thomas Sertic. Sentencing is set for October 20, 2025, before the Honorable Tammy Riggs.
