A Reno man has been sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years, for Lewdness with Child Under the Age of 14 Years. The sentence is the only applicable sentence under NRS for the charge.
Matthew Poole (dob 7/15/90) was arrested by Reno Police Officers after the 10-year-old victim, who was known to the defendant, disclosed that Poole had been inappropriately touching her for months. The child shared with law enforcement that over multiple instances, Poole had engaged in sexual conduct using her feet, had exposed himself and masturbated in front of her, and that he watched pornography in front of her.
Deputy District Attorney Matt Merrill represented the State in the case, and at sentencing argued that sexual crimes against children leave lasting injuries to that child, many of which may last their entire lives and that the only appropriate sentence is life in prison. The Honorable Egan Walker presided and imposed the mandatory sentence.
