A jury has convicted Carl Deamicis (dob 9/18/74) of two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon following a two-day trial.
Deamicis was arrested by Reno Police officers in July of this year, after he pulled a knife on two City of Reno park rangers. The rangers had been patrolling Dick Taylor Park in the early morning, when they came across the defendant and an unidentified woman sleeping in a hammock that was tied to some of the playground equipment. The rangers told the pair that they needed to leave the area or would be given civil citations. After Deamicis was informed he would have to go to community court for the citation, he began to curse at the two rangers before pulling out a large, black, 10-12” knife and thrusting it towards them. Deamicis fled the area and was subsequently arrested by Reno Police after he was discovered hiding under a tarp in the backyard of a nearby home.
During the trial, Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Koss highlighted Deamicis’ intent to put the rangers in fear of immediate bodily harm so they would flee and would not issue the citation. Sentencing is set for January 22, 2025 before the Honorable Judge Kathleen Sigurdson.
