A Reno man who assaulted several Reno Police officers, as well as medical personnel, has been convicted of three counts of Battery by Prisoner, Probationer, or Parolee.
Officers with RPD were called to the home of Dylan Brown’s (dob 3/19/05) mother in August of last year, after she had served Brown an eviction notice, and he attempted to hit her. When the police arrived, Brown had left the area, so a citizen’s arrest was signed. The next day, the defendant’s mother called law enforcement, saying that Brown was back and was harassing her. When officers arrived, they attempted to arrest Brown for the prior incident. However, he became increasingly non-compliant during the exchange. At that time, it was decided Brown would be placed in a WRAP device for his own safety. While RPD officers worked to put Brown in the car, the defendant spat into the face of one of the officers, while also calling him a racial slur. Brown then spat at a second officer, and a spit hood was applied.
During the arrest, the defendant told law enforcement he was going to have a medical episode, so REMSA and Reno Fire were contacted. Brown continued to spit at everyone in the area and yell racial comments, before ultimately being sedated for transport. After being taken to the hospital, Brown was in 4-point restraints but was able to free his left arm and attempted to undo the rest of the restraints when a nurse noticed what was happening. A hospital security guard and an RPD officer attempted to intervene, and Brown spit into the face of the security guard, the nurse, and the RPD officer. He was eventually placed into another WRAP device and taken to jail.
The State was represented by Deputy District Attorney Hannah Martinez, before the Honorable Egan Walker. Sentencing is set for May 21st.
