Washoe County District Attorney's Office

Life Sentence Given in Child Sexual Assault Case

Defendant Victimized Two Children

Jun 24, 2025

District Attorney Chris Hicks announces that a local man has been sentenced to life in prison, after being convicted of Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 16 and Attempted Lewdness by a Person Over 18 with a Child Less Than 14. Erik Self Jr. (dob 7/27/85) will be eligible for parole after 30 years in prison.

In September of 2022 officers responded to an apartment complex on Greyhaven Lane and encountered the defendant who was suicidal, high on methamphetamine, and admitting to having molested children. During the subsequent investigation into the claims of sexual abuse, detectives with Sparks Police Department identified two children who disclosed that Self had sexually abused them. At the conclusion of the investigation, Defendant was extradited to Washoe County from Ada County Idaho, where he had been incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Peg Samples represented the State in this case, and at sentencing, focused on the lifelong impact of the trauma the defendant inflicted on the children. The Honorable Tammy Riggs presided and imposed the 30-life sentence.
