Jury Convicts Child Predators

Defendants Face Life in Prison

Jun 17, 2024

A jury has convicted Ajay Ajay (dob 3/18/01) of both felony counts of Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 14 and Attempted Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 14.

In October of 2022, Reno Police learned the 13-year-old victim met Ajay after spending time at the 7-Eleven store where Ajay worked. After spending time at the store, Ajay took the victim back to his apartment and sexually assaulted him.

During the trial Deputy District Attorney Amanda Sage highlighted how Ajay developed a friendship with the child through in-store visits and social media communications, before suggesting they engage in sexual activity.

Sentencing is set for July 22, 2024 before the Honorable Judge Kathleen Sigurdson. Ajay faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison with parole eligibility after 35 years.

A jury has found Leonel Vazquez-Hinojosa (dob 12/29/86) guilty of Lewdness with a Child Under 14. The investigation began in May of 2021 after a witness saw Vazquez-Hinojosa inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl. Sparks Police responded to the scene, where Vazquez-Hinojosa stated he “messed up” and “made a mistake.”

The victim, who was known to the defendant, spoke out during the trial, sharing her story with DDA Amanda Sage and the jury. Sentencing is set for August of this year, when he will be sentenced to the mandatory prison sentence of life with parole eligibility after 10 years.
