Drug Trafficker Had More Than 8 Pounds of Fentanyl

WCDA Secures Conviction

Apr 24, 2025

A Reno man who was arrested with more than 8 pounds of fentanyl has been convicted of drug trafficking.

“My office, in partnership with law enforcement, remains firmly committed to combating the fentanyl epidemic,” said DA Chris Hicks. “Protecting our community by targeting those who distribute this deadly drug – and prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law – will continue to be one of our highest priorities. I commend the jury for their time and guilty verdict on this serious case.”

Reno Police officers were called to an apartment on Berrum Lane following a report of a fight between neighbors, back in December of 2023. When officers arrived, they found Emanuel Palomares (dob 8/2/94) trying to throw a backpack over the fence. After searching the bag, RPD recovered 8 pounds of fentanyl in multiple large baggies.

During the four-day trial, Deputy District Attorney Aziz Merchant touched on the significant level of fentanyl Palomares was carrying, which equates to more than one million individual doses. This seizure was one of the largest fentanyl seizures in Northern Nevada.  Sentencing is set for June 12th before the Honorable David Hardy. Emanuel Palomares faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years.
