District Attorney Chris Hicks announces that Gabino Galvez-Galvez (dob 10/21/84) has been sentenced to life in prison. The defendant was previously convicted of Incest, Sexual Assault on a Child Under 16, and Lewdness with a Child 14 or 15. He will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
The case against Galvez-Galvez began in 2023 after a witness came forward to a local social services organization to report that she believed the defendant was engaging in a sexual relationship with the 17-year-old victim. The victim, who was known to the defendant, disclosed to law enforcement that Galvez-Galvez had been sexually abusing her since she was 14.
During sentencing, the State advocated for the 35-life sentence, noting that the victim was especially vulnerable, having, at the age of 14, just moved away from friends and family to live with the defendant. The Deputy District Attorney also highlighted that the defendant was opportunistic and remorseless, and that the abuse carried on for five years. The Honorable Judge Kathleen Drakulich presided and imposed the sentence.
