A Sparks man who was previously convicted in a drug smuggling case involving more than a pound of meth, has been sentenced. John Herbaugh (dob 4/12/55) will spend 25 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 10 years.
Back in April, Herbaugh was convicted of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Sell, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Officers stopped Herbaugh as he was driving into Reno on February 22nd of 2024. Herbaugh tried to deceive the officers, but was unsuccessful after a K9 alerted on narcotics in his truck. In addition to large amounts of plastic bags and cash, law enforcement recovered more than a pound of methamphetamine and 4 grams of cocaine, which led to Herbaugh’s arrest and subsequent conviction. When he was caught, Herbaugh already had the pound of methamphetamine divided into numerous smaller packages for sale. It was enough methamphetamine to supply more than 2,200 individual doses of the drug.
The State was represented by Deputy District Attorney Michael Vieta-Kabell. The Honorable Kathleen Drakulich presided and imposed the sentence.
