District Attorney Chris Hicks announced today the conclusion of four separate child sexual abuse cases resulting in life sentences, marking the culmination of a year in which the office secured a total of 37 life sentences against child sexual predators.
“The fact that our office secured 37 life sentences against child sexual predators in a single year speaks to both the scope of these crimes and our unwavering resolve to confront them,” said District Attorney Chris Hicks. “Protecting children from sexual abuse is among our most solemn responsibilities. We will continue to pursue justice relentlessly and ensure that those who prey on our most vulnerable are removed from our communities.”
Christopher Escobar (dob 11/13/85), has been sentenced to life in prison, after being convicted of Lewdness with Child Under the Age of 14 Years. Last December, the 10-year-old victim’s grandmother reported to Reno Police that Escobar, who was known to the victim, had touched her inappropriately while she was sleeping. Officers from both Reno Police Department and the Sparks Police Department responded, and through their investigation discovered there were two minor children as victims, where each had been touched by Escobar. He will be eligible for parole after 10 years in prison.
Andrew Malsack (dob 5/21/87) has been sentenced to life in prison, after being convicted of Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 16 Years. Earlier this year, a girl reported to her school counselor that when she lived in the area as a child, she was sexually assaulted multiple times by Malsack. During the investigation, officers learned that the victim was between 4-5 years old when the assaults occurred. Police also learned that a second victim, a boy, was also victimized when he was 4-5 years old. Deputy District Attorney Matt Merrill again represented the State in this case, and at sentencing, focused on the egregious nature of the crimes, the lifelong impact inflicted by Malsack on these victims, and the danger he poses to the community. Malsack will be eligible for parole after 25 years in prison.
Javier Castellanos-Bacilio (12/05/83) has been sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after serving 65 years. He was previously convicted of three counts of Lewdness with a Child and one count of Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 14 Years and was sentenced to 10-life for each lewdness count and 35-life for the sexual assault count, running all sentences consecutively.
Jaime Oseguera (dob 1/26/76) was sentenced to an additional 115 years for sexually abusing three victims, in connection to a second case against him. He had previously been sentenced to 247 years in prison in the first case from 2020. With this second case, Oseguera was convicted of one Count of Sexual Assault on a Child Under 16, nine counts of Lewdness with a Child Under 14, one count of Indecent Exposure, and three counts of Open & Gross Lewdness. At sentencing, the assigned prosecutor argued that he should get all consecutive sentences to account for each victim’s trauma and that he should never have any hope of spending one minute of his life not behind bars.
