A jury has convicted repeat offender Clyde Buckley III (dob 3/17/98) of Robbery with a Firearm. Buckley robbed a local casino employee only 11 days after being released from custody after being sentenced to time served plus 3 years supervised release for Felon in Possession of a Firearm in the Federal District Court.
Reno Police responded to the Circus Circus a little after midnight on January 24th of this year, after receiving a report of an armed robbery. Officers learned that a casino cage supervisor had been robbed at gunpoint in the parking garage by two masked men. The victim reported that the men pointed a gun at her before dragging her down two flights of stairs, taking her purse, phone, and lunch bag in the process.
Surveillance video revealed that Buckley and the second suspect had coordinated the robbery, by each wearing a ski mask to conceal their identities and staging a getaway driver. Detectives recognized Buckley III from prior shooting investigations. They also located video surveillance earlier in the day showing Buckley wearing the same clothes he wore during the robbery. Surveillance also showed Buckley in similar clothing when he reported for probation at the federal courthouse.
During the trial, Chief Deputy District Attorney Amos Stege emphasized the calculated use of a pistol and the violent nature of the offense. This verdict represents Buckley’s third gun-related conviction: he was convicted in 2019 of Challenge to Fight with a Firearm, and in 2024 of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Sentencing is set for December 5, 2024 before the Honorable Judge Barry Breslow.
