DA Chris Hicks announces that the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has secured two separate life sentences in child abuse cases.
“The life sentences sought and secured in these egregious child sexual abuse cases reflect my office’s unwavering commitment to protecting children in our community and ensuring that predators are held fully accountable for their crimes,” said DA Hicks. “We will continue to fight relentlessly for justice on behalf of our most vulnerable victims.”
In the first case, Joe Greco was previously convicted of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl. The Honorable Connie Steinheimer imposed the sentence on Greco, who will be eligible for parole after 20 years.
Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Greco, after someone witnessed him placing his hands down the child’s pants. During the case, law enforcement learned that Greco had sexually abused the child multiple times, beginning when she was two years old.
Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades represented the State in the case, and at sentencing argued that the maximum sentence was warranted based on Greco’s years-long sexual abuse of the child victim.
Orlando Guzman has been sentenced to life in prison, with parole eligibility after 25 years. Guzman was found guilty by a jury earlier this year of three counts of Lewdness with a Child Under 14 and one count of Battery with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault, Victim Under 16.
The mother of the victim reported to Reno Police that her daughter disclosed to her that when she was 11 years old, Guzman sexually abused her. The State was again represented by Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades. The Honorable Kathleen Drakulich presided and imposed the sentence.
