A jury has found Ervin Peter (DOB 3/18/89) guilty of two counts of DUI Resulting in Death and two counts of Hit and Run Involving Death.
On July 4, 2023, Peter was driving southbound on U.S. 395 near North McCarran Boulevard when his car veered off the roadway and crashed into a ditch. A witness to the crash estimated that Peter was travelling nearly 100 miles per hour before rolling the car. Peter’s younger brother and brother-in-law were ejected and suffered fatal injuries.
Instead of calling for help or rendering aid to his family members, Peter immediately left the area. Nevada Highway Patrol troopers eventually located Peter at his home several hours later, where he displayed several signs of alcohol impairment. Peter denied driving the vehicle but had a seatbelt mark consistent with him being the driver.
During the trial, prosecutors presented Peter’s seatbelt marking, roadway evidence, testimony from Good Samaritans who stopped to help, and evidence of Peter’s impairment. Sentencing is set for November 9th before the Honorable Tammy Riggs. Peter faces a potential maximum sentence of 32–80 years in prison.
